With New Year's resolutions peeking just around the corner, what can you plan to do to revitalize your career and raise your market value? Consider some of the following ideas:

1. Start keeping a portfolio of your accomplishments and challenges in your current and previous positions. When you go for your next review, you will have proof of why you are worth a higher raise or promotion. Also, when interviewing, a portfolio makes the process much more visual.

2. Take a class. If you have been meaning to learn a new computer program, have a fear of public speaking or just need to polish up your communication skills, take a class, sign up for a seminar or join a club. You will add a new skill set, and increase your marketability and your value to the workplace.

3. Polish up your resume. No matter how solid your current position is, you never know when disaster will strike or opportunity will knock! If you always consider yourself to be 10% in the job search, you will never find yourself watching opportunity to pass you by.

4. Take stock of your wardrobe. Are you on the cutting edge or in yesterday's closest? Are you wearing power colors or have you slipped into a shadowy slump?

5. Join a professional organization for your career field and network! You will stay up to date on career trends and opportunities.

6. Ask for additional responsibility at work or cross-train in another functional area. If you are not currently working, consider volunteering. This will increase your skills.

7. Decide now whether you want to be remembered as the Grinch or a savvy professional throughout the next year. It only takes a few minutes to send a holiday greeting to colleagues, friends and other associates. But, the benefit can last a lifetime. Decide how you want to be remembered!

8. Finally, try not to let the holidays take their toll. Enjoy good food, good friends, family and fun so you can greet the new year with a smile and a positive attitude.
